In November 1983 Ontario Hydro produced a small booklet entitled "Property and Compensation Policies". It was obviously intended for handout to property owners affected by Ontario Hydro projects and no doubt many were distributed by property agents engaged in land acquisition on Hydro's behalf. As the title suggests, this booklet sets out Ontario Hydro's land acquisition policies. Other large utilities and other organizations with large acquisition programs have produced similar publications from time to time. These policies were intended to establish a framework for property negotiations. However, as many expropriation professionals know, often such policies must give way to the specific requirements of a property owner.

Ontario Hydro no longer exists so this booklet is of historical value only. However, the policies still make for interesting reading. The booklet may be viewed by clicking on the link below.
